Dear Parents/Guardians and Friends,Smothers

The summer has ended and ALL students are returning to school to add another year to their education. I hope that your summer together has been a happy and safe one for the entire family. I am looking forward to another year of serving as the principal of Claude Huyck School. I already know that we will face many challenges. We have already experienced a few victories and the unknown will happen no matter how much time we have spent planning ahead. Together, we can take care of anything that comes our way.

AYP- I have spoken with many parents over the past few weeks. I am pleased to announce that the Claude Huyck students continue to meet their Annual Yearly Progress in relation to proficiency on the Kansas Assessments. I am pleased but not content and am looking forward to the day when 100% of our students are proficient in all areas. I can already tell you that this is a Challenge & Victory for our school and for you as parents. The victory comes in the hard work of our teachers and students. The challenge comes in continuing this success and I can tell you parents, it cannot be done without your support.

STUDENT LEARNING- Student learning remains our most important priority. We will only have your child for a “moment in time”. Trust me, the elementary school years fly by and we wonder what else we could have done to prepare them for the future. Parents, please make school a priority for your child. Support the teacher and the homework that they send home each week. Review our discipline policies with your child- Character is truly the key to their future success! And most importantly, make sure that your child arrives at school on time, every day, prepared to learn. Your help in this area can promote a lifetime of success for your child.

COMMUNICATION- Each year I talk with many, many parents, guardians and friends of the students that attend Claude Huyck School. Sometimes the conversation is to share good news and sometimes to remind parents of areas where the student needs to improve.

Either way, communication is essential to our success. We have your child all day long and we will need your help to keep everything going smoothly. I hope that you will all take a minute to read the letters, newsletters and other notes that are sent home for your benefit. We also send a monthly calendar which will have important information about special events that take place. Let me know if I can help you in any way. The success of your child is very important to me. I truly care about the education that they are receiving.

Sincerely,

Vicki L. Smothers, Principal
