Our Way...

Discipline and Behavior Expectations:
Your child will be expected to follow all classroom and school rules. Your support in this area is critical to the success your child will experience while attending Claude Huyck School. When the school year begins you will receive more information regarding the rewards and consequences of our school-wide discipline program. The five main behavior expectations for your child:
Do your Very Best
Every day all students will complete all assignments in the classroom.
NO Fighting
All students will keep their hands and feet to themselves.
No Talking Back
All students will speak to all adults respectfully.
NO Profanities
All students will speak to each other respectfully.
Follow the Golden Rule
Treat others the way you would like to be treated.

Consequences
1) Classroom Behavior Plans: Each teacher is expected to outline a behavior plan for their students

2)
Individual Behavior Plan: An individual behavior plan is written for your child if necessary. Parents will be notified if this is needed for your child.

3)
"Think Sheets:" This is an opportunity for students to think and write about their negative behaviors. The "Think Sheet" is sent home to be signed by the parents and returned to school. The purpose of the "Think Sheet" is to redirect student behavior and to inform the parent of the situation. Continuous "Think Sheets" can result in a more seious consequence including, but not limited to, an "Out of School Suspension."

4)
Office Referrals: Office referrals are for more serious behavior infractions which occur consistently. Repeated office referrals can result in more serious consequences including, but not limited to, an "Out of School Suspension."

5)
USD 500 Code of Conduct: Our school board has approved a student "Code of Conduct" book that gives detailed descriptions of behaviors and the consequences that can take place when those behaviors restrict the learning of your child or others.

Rewards
1) Daily -- Recess for all students -- all class work must be completed
2) Whole classroom celebrations -- scheduled by the teacher (celebrate teamwork)
3) "Fantastic Fun Friday" - Student recognition
4) Monthly -- "Students of the Month" -- recognition in the Huyck Hotline: newsletter
5) Quarterly -- "Principal's Eagle Awards" -- recognition for positive student behaviors in all areas of the school.
Our goal must continue to be "academic achievement for all students." We must work together as a team to promote positive behaviors for our students and keep our school safe. Please call Ms Smothers if you have any questions or concerns regarding discipline at Claude Huyck School.
