Every Day...

Starting The Day:

Arrival:
Students should not arrive at school before 8:30 a.m. Please do not drop off your children prior to this time as they will be without supervision. Students will enter the building at 8:35 a.m. for breakfast and our morning assembly.

Upon entering the school, your child will proceed to the auditorium. If eating breakfast they need to proceed to the breakfast line. If not eating breakfast, the student must find his class row and sit quietly in line. There is no talking during the daily morning assembly. Make sure that your child keeps a book in their book bag to read at all times. Each child must bring a book to read in the auditorium until time to proceed to class. Doing this gives our children important reading time, which we feel has helped us to meet and exceed our reading goals.

There are two lanes on the street in front of our school. The first lane (closest to the school) is for BUSES only and the second lane is for cars. Your child should be released at the yellow crosswalk in front of the school only. Please wait until reaching the crosswalk before allowing your child to exit your car. A school employee will be outside to supervise students at that time.

Dismissal:
We begin dismissing students each day at 3:55 p.m. Car riders and walkers are always dismissed first. If you walk up to the school to collect your child, you must wait on the opposite side of the driveway, by the Claude Huyck sign. A school employee will safely direct your child to you as they exit the building.

There are two lanes on the street in front of our school. The first lane (closest to the school) is for BUSES only and the second lane is for the cars. If you are in the car lane you must stay in your car. Your child will be dismissed at the yellow crosswalk in front of the school. If you do not want to wait in line you can park on the street below the school (83rd St.). A school employee will safely direct your child to you as they exit the building.

Class Time:
Class time starts at 9:00 a.m. and ends at 3:55 p.m., except for Wednesdays, when classes are let out at 2:00 p.m. Parents/guardians are expected to notify the school of a child's absence and the reason. If your child is absent or tardy, parents/guardians should call the main office at 913-627-4650 by 9:00 a.m. that day or the evening before. If arriving after 9:00 a.m., a student must report to the office before reporting to class. If a student does not report to school and the school has not been notified, this is considered an unexcused absence. On the third consecutive day of an unexcused absence, a letter will be sent to the parent from the school. On the fifth unexcused absence (consecutive or not) a referral will be made to the SRS. At that point the SRS will investigate to see if further statutes have been violated.

Visitors:
Parents are always welcome as guests, visitors or volunteers. However, for the welfare of all our students, we ask that everyone follow the same procedure. All visitors must report to the school office when entering the building. If a student has forgotten his/her lunch or school work, these can be dropped off at the office and we will see that they are delivered to the student. If a child must be dismissed before the usual dismissal time, a note from a parent or guardian is to be sent to the school office. An adult must come to the office to sign out a student for early dismissal. It is recommended that whenever possible, medical and dental appointments be made before or after school hours.

Teacher Availability:
Teachers are available to visit with parents on Monday, Wednesday or Friday mornings from 8:30-9:00 a.m. They are also available after school by appointment only.
