WELCOME BACK TO A NEW SCHOOL YEAR!
Dear Parents, Guardians, & Friends,
Welcome back to a brand new school year! I am happy to report that the school year has started out very well. We have a lot of new faces around the school. Our classrooms are full of children that are learning and already working hard. I could not be more pleased with the way that our students have begun their year. They are awesome and wonderful children! Today in the lunchroom I practiced each and every new name and got a 100% on my first test. The students appreciate it when you call them by their correct name. In fact, one of the non-negotiable items that I gave to my entire staff is that we will address the student each time by their own name. Kids respond better when they know that you care enough to learn their name. By the way, our theme for this school year is “Each and Every Day- Each and Every Child”. At the current time our school represents a very wide variety of races, cultures and learning styles. As a staff we plan to celebrate our students each and every day. We believe in their ability to achieve in a variety of ways and the expectation for each child will be the same- “Do Your Best and then Do Some More”!
I would also like to take this time to thank the parents for the incredible job that you did preparing the students to return to school. Our first day of school was just like the last day of school, the students were prepared for learning and I really want to thank you for that. All students will do better in school when they know that their parents are behind them all the way.
I am very pleased to announce that our school has achieved AYP for another year. For those new parents, AYP is the Annual Yearly Progress that is required by the Federal and State government under the No Child Left Behind Law. Our teachers and students work very hard to achieve this goal each year. A full report will be forthcoming to all parents explaining more about the scores and exactly where our school stands in our efforts to make sure that 100% of our students are proficient. This report will come to you as soon as the state has declared the scores official.
In closing I would like to inform all parents about new “Anti-Bullying” requirements from the state of Kansas that will take effect on January 1, 2008. The name of this legislation is “SB 68: Kansas Anti-Bullying & Character Development Legislation”. Each school will be required to: 1. Adopt a policy to prohibit bullying at school or school sponsored events, 2. adopt and implement a plan to do so, 3. provide anti-bullying training for students and staff. I will address this more at a later date but I wanted to make sure that you were informed that the school district and state are really working hard to address this issue.
Once again, welcome back! Did you know that I am available for you all the time? Just give me a call (913-627-4662) or an e-mail (vismoth@kckps.org) and I will get right back to you.
